Author’s Note 3/10/22: I published this in 2017 and my feelings about Marie Forleo, her ethics, and what her brand represents have changed since I wrote this. I encourage you to read these resources for my thoughts on Marie Forleo and her B-School brands.

Have you ever lusted after Marie Forleo’s website?
Maybe you told your designer, “I want a brand like that!” (No shame…I mean, who doesn’t?!)
Or maaaaybe you googled “Marie Forleo’s website” to find the designer responsible for her web masterpiece. (It was the incredible Kriss Did It, creative director Geáda Lauren Ford, and the rest of the MF design team, by the way. It takes a village, people.) But you found my blog post instead: “You Don’t Want Marie Forleo’s Website.” But, even after reading my post, the desire for a Marie inspired website still burns strong? I see you.
When interviewing prospective design clients, “What websites do you love?” is one of the first questions I ask. About a year ago (when I wrote this blog) I started to notice JUST how many people answered “MarieForleo.com” even BEFORE her stunning new site reveal. But, when we dug into the WHY, I discovered that it wasn’t the divine design they loved most, but the amazing brand BEHIND the website.
Funny, I have people find that post all the time and write me, “I KNOW I don’t want Marie Forleo’s website, buuuut actually I still want it.” So, I decided the topic still wants to be discussed in new ways. And that’s why I’m diving in again with this video.
Check out the vid for a deep dive into WHY you don’t want Marie Forleo’s website (or Danielle LaPorte’s website, Nisha Moodley’s website, Lewis Howes’ website, all runners up for my clients’ most popular design inspirations). And, more importantly, how you can craft a brand that is even BETTER than all of the above (because it’s tailored to you).
