The one at 35,000 feet
Creative Camp on the Road
July 27, 2026
Can I build an entire adult creativity camp on a 737 at 35,000 feet – without becoming the world’s worst seatmate? Let’s find out.
I’m a creative director trying to build a creativity practice wherever I am, so I built a camp instead of a content strategy.
And now I have to get it through airport security.
I also keep getting messages from people who WANT to join me here at Creative Camp but don’t have the proper gear…or so you say. 😉
We can’t all set up a poor woman’s Wheel of Fortune in our living room. Nor should we.
Creative Camp is not about MORE: more space, more time, more stuff.
It’s about, yup! Rule #1: USING WHAT YOU HAVE! Transforming the world around you type shit. Yeahhhhhh. Practical magic, baby. 🪄
So I set out to build a mini Creative Camp so simple and easy it could fit on an airplane tray table.
My vision is to pack the kind of random stuff that Regular JoJos without rainbow stairs + closets full of pompoms + glitter might have laying around. And that vision comes to life organically when I’m late to my flight and have exactly 45 seconds to assemble my creative knapsack. 😂
I pull two random prompts, grab 14 miscellaneous doodads, yell “DOES ANYONE HAVE A PAPERCLIP?!” and I’m off to prove that yes you CAN take your 8-year-old’s scissors through airport security – twice! Great news for crafting, concerning news for national security?
Then it’s time to set up camp in the sky.
I have exactly what’s in my backpack and approximately one square foot of federal airspace. An absolute creative wonderland. 🌈
I build my spinner, the heart of camp HQ, using nothing more than a piece of paper, a few pens, and a paperclip.
Put your pen on the bullseye, flick your clip, and get creative. How cute is that?!
All this before the drink cart arrives (and betrays me with honey mustard pretzels…WHYYYYY?!?)
Creative Camp now has a permanent campus in the Here & Now.
And that’s what it’s all about! Because creativity can often be a code word for MORE. Make more. Post more. Turn your creativity practice into a machine that will extract more labor from you. (And more guilt and more impostor syndrome and more compare = despair…more, more, more!)
What if creativity is not necessarily about “producing” anything at all but about seeing and being in the world differently?
What if it really is that easy? (Rules #1, 2, and #3 baby…oh yeahhh…)
The only MORE Creative Camp asks for is more of your own attention back.
Because here, inside this tiny screen, the Attention Economy captures, extracts, packages our attention and monetizes our eyeballs six ways from Sunday.
Creative Camp is here to beckon you to pay attention to the world, unmonetized and unoptimized.
You don’t need a poor woman’s Wheel of Fortune in your kitchen.
You just need exactly what you have right here. Right now.
Welcome to camp.

Welcome to Creative Camp
What is Creative Camp?
Hey! I'm RKA
But that's Rachael Kay Albers to you
I'm a creative director + brand strategist on a quest to create more for play, not just for pay. So, I built a camp instead of a content strategy. 30 days, 30 creative adventures =
1. Each day, I pull a creative action verb from the Create Jar.
2. Then I spin a muse / medium with the Explore Spinner.
3. Finally, I roll the Experiment Dice for 6 possible twists.
Creative Camp is an experiment in wild, unoptimized creativity. And you're invited to come along. Welcome to camp.
